NSW: Police student has died after last week's crash in Dapto
SYDNEY, Feb 1 AAP - A student policeman who was involved in a crash while on duty onthe NSW South Coast last week has died in hospital.
Robert Brotherson, 29, died in Wollongong Hospital today following a crash on the F6Freeway at Dapto on Thursday last week.
Lake Illawarra Local Area Commander Superintendent Gary Hodsdon said Mr Brothersonhad been on attachment to the command, as part of the Constable Education Program deliveredjointly by the NSW Police and Charles Sturt University.
"In the short time we had known Robert, he had impressed everyone he met with his ability,enthusiasm and compassion," Supt Hodsdon said.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Emerson Road when police from the LakeIllawarra Local Area Command were responding to an urgent job on the freeway.
The police vehicle skidded on the roadway and collided with a truck travelling in theopposite direction.
Mr Brotherson and two other officers were taken to Wollongong Hospital.
One of the officers was treated for minor injuries and has since been released.
The second officer was treated for a serious laceration to his head and is in a stablecondition in hospital.
Mr Brotherson underwent surgery for multiple injuries.
