Fed: Govt drops case against Skase=2re-opens
Mr WILLIAMS says on Mr DONNELLY'S assessment, Mr SKASE consumed substantial funds onfailed development projects and living expenses.
He says Mr DONNELLY believes it would not be cost-effective to pursue what few assetsmay possibly remain.
The federal government has so far spent about $2.65 million on the investigation andrelated legal proceedings since 1993.
In 1991 Skase declared bankruptcy, claiming assets of $5,000 and debts of $172 millionafter the 1989 collapse of Qintex.
He then left the country less than 24 hours before the confiscation of his passportand died in Majorca in August 2001.
Mr DONNELLY believed Skase left Australian shores with a personal amount close to $10 million.
